Inspire and empower the next generation of conservation leaders in Georgia through bird migration education, environmental awareness and hands-on community engagement

Georgia lies on one of the world's most important bird migration routes, with millions of birds passing through the country each year as they travel between Europe, Asia and Africa. This remarkable natural phenomenon provides a unique opportunity to inspire local communities—particularly young people—to understand, appreciate and protect the biodiversity that surrounds them. However, increasing environmental pressures and limited access to conservation education mean many children have few opportunities to engage with nature or learn about the importance of migratory bird conservation.

Through this project, local schools, educators and conservation organisations work together to deliver hands-on environmental education, birdwatching activities and citizen science experiences that connect children with the natural world. By fostering a lifelong appreciation for wildlife and the environment, the project helps develop the next generation of conservation leaders while raising awareness of the importance of protecting migratory birds and their habitats. Your support will provide educational resources, field experiences and community engagement activities that create lasting conservation outcomes for both people and nature.

Background

Georgia sits at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and is one of the world's most important migration corridors for birds. Every spring and autumn, millions of birds travel along the East African–West Asian Flyway, making Georgia a globally significant location for bird conservation. Despite this extraordinary natural asset, many young people have limited opportunities to learn about the importance of migratory birds and the role their country plays in protecting global biodiversity.

This project addresses that gap by working with schools, educators and local conservation organisations to deliver environmental education and hands-on learning experiences. By encouraging children to connect with nature through birdwatching, citizen science and conservation activities, the project builds environmental awareness, fosters pride in Georgia's natural heritage and empowers the next generation to become active stewards of their environment.
