We work closely with World Expeditions Schools, who meet the requirements to be included on the Register of Activity Providers maintained by the National Award Office of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Australia.

Together, we can assist you with tailoring a travel experience that helps you satisfy specific requirements of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (the Award), in particular the Adventurous Journey and Residential Project sections.

AWARD CATEGORIES

First, participants must choose an Award level - Bronze, Silver or Gold.

There are 4 mandatory sections to the Award (5 for Gold). Participants choose and undertake an activity that fits in with the purpose of each section, for the minimum amount of time specified for their chosen level. 

• Physical Recreation: Break a sweat and improve your physical fitness.This could be through a team sport, individual pursuit or simply getting out there and working up a sweat. 
• Skill: Unleash your talent and broaden your abilities. Anything from refereeing, to DJing to learning a musical instrument, to jewellery making. The world is your oyster. 
• Volunteering: Connect with your community and realise your passions. Any area of interest in the community, such as youth work, the environment or charity work. 
• Adventurous Journey: Discover your sense of adventure and bond with your mates. A journey into an unfamiliar environment with a group – bushwalking, canoeing, cycling – staying overnight and testing your resilience. 
• Residential Project: Broaden your horizons and open your eyes to the world. Live and work in a place of need – an environmental project, a village. Your imaginations is your only limit.
  
  

HOW WE CAN HELP WITH YOUR AWARD

World Expeditions Schools has worked closely with many schools to design a school expedition that can count towards a student’s Award. Award Leaders can work with us to create a uniquely designed program to achieve an Award and this is where World Expeditions Schools can help.

World Expeditions Schools and Blue Mountains Adventure Company can assist you with the following section of the Award; 

Residential Project: The Residential Project, completed only at Gold Level, aims to broaden participants' horizons through involvement with others in a residential setting The Residential Project offers Gold Award Participants unique experiences that truly broaden horizons and challenge their outlook.  

At the heart of the Residential Project is the undertaking of purposeful experience with people who are not their usual companions, working towards a common goal. Added to this, the young person is also outside of their usual place of residence, often in an unfamiliar environment. 

It is hoped that the Residential Project rewards Gold Award Participants with a sense of personal achievement, enhanced social connection with new and interesting people, and a truly life changing experience.

Adventurous Journey: The Adventurous Journey section encourages a sense of adventure and discovery whilst undertaking a team journey or expedition.

The journey can be an exploration or an expedition but must be a challenge, something we specialise in.

The aim of this Section is to provide participants with the opportunity to learn more about the wider environment, as well as to develop their self-confidence, team work and health. Participants are taken out of their comfort zone- in an unfamiliar environment but kept within a safe and secure setting, achieved through suitable training and supervision.
