"Warami mittigar" - Hello friend. We welcome you to Dharug Country

"Biimbiigang" - Greetings. We invite you to Gundungurra Country

Join us to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during NAIDOC Week on Saturday 13th July. This is an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in some of the Dharug and Gundungurra celebrations in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney; and, also to enjoy a walk on Country led by one our passionate and knowledgeable local guides.

The day will commence at our Blue Mountains Adventure Company office in Katoomba at 9am.

We’ll warm-up with a short walk to Gargaree, a designated Aboriginal Place here in Katoomba. This significant local site has had a chequered history which we’ll learn about as we walk the interpretive walk and discover the historical significance of the site and the continuing efforts being undertaken to restore Country and Culture.

We will then walk to the nearby Blue Mountains Cultural Centre to participate in a local NAIDOC Week celebration organised in partnership with the Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture and Resource Centre and Blue Mountains City Council. A Smoking Ceremony and Welcome, dance performances and a chance to view the ‘Ngurra Bayala’ (Country Speaks) and ‘Fire Within’ exhibits will be opportunities not to miss.

For the second half of our day together, we'll explore some of the nearby walking trails with a focus on the newly revamped Grand Cliff Top Track and the spectacular views across the Jamison Valley. During this walk we'll enjoy stories retold by our senior guide Dan Lewis, who as a former Sydney Morning Herald journalist and born-and-bred local, has a wealth of local knowledge and a genuine commitment to the local Dharug and Gundungurra cultures.

Come and join us as we celebrate the oldest, continuous living culture on earth.

This adventure takes place on DHARUG and GUNDUNGURRA Country. We acknowledge their enduring connection with this Country, as they are the traditional custodians of this land, and we journey in respect of their Country.

We believe our walking adventures are heaps of fun, and we want to ensure you have the best experience possible. Our walks are graded according to their technical difficulty, distance, remoteness, and level of fitness required. For these walks, participants require a good level of fitness and must be willing and able to walk over rugged terrain with some steep ascents and descents. In order to complete these walks you should ideally undertake regular exercise two or three times a week. Participants will get the most out of their walk if they feel comfortable walking up and down stairs and on uneven ground.

And if you aren’t completely satisfied by our response, we will refund that part of your adventure. (Conditions Apply).

High Quality Services

Passionate, highly qualified and experienced guides; gourmet lunches prepared by Altitude Deli in Blackheath; quality equipment in good condition that are regularly inspected and exceed industry standards – with us you can expect a high quality Blue Mountains adventure.

Our Safety Record

We don’t cut corners on safety. Over and above our well-stocked and maintained first aid kits, we also carry extra safety gear such as bivvy bags and emergency sleeping bags; and our roping practices are designed to ensure the best outcome should a rescue or assist be required. You can be confident our guides are working hard to keep you safe.

No Hidden Extras

Our adventures are all inclusive. All adventures include licenses, equipment, professional guides and everything else you need for an action packed adventure. All you have to bring is suitable clothing, comfortable enclosed footwear, a water bottle and a camera to capture the day. And if you don’t have any of the necessary clothing we’ll happily provide you with the basics at no additional cost.

Diverse Range of Blue Mountains Adventures

We offer more adventure locations in the Blue Mountains than anyone else. The canyons and climbs of the Blue Mountains are many and varied. Ever heard of Du Faurs Creek? Want to know what’s involved in Dalpura? Do the names ‘Bunny Buckets’ or ‘Dirty Rotten Pig’ sound weird, but you’re still intrigued? Keen to explore Dargan’s, Birrabang, or Breakfast Creek? If you are looking for something specific - just ask!

We respectfully acknowledge the Dharug, Darkinjung, Dharawal, Gundungurra, Wanaruah, and Wiradjuri language groups as the traditional custodians of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and thank them for sharing this beautiful land with us. Our Reconciliation Action Plan outlines our commitment to building respectful relationships, creating meaningful opportunities, and addressing inequalities that have historically existed.
