Overview

Trip Code: BSW

To join this trip you can self drive to Jindabyne or join the group transfer with a scheduled pick up from Central Station at 7am or Canberra Station at 10am. The group will meet at 12pm in Jindabyne, and enjoy a delicious lunch at the foot of Kosciuszko National Park. A transfer will bring the group to the quiet village of Guthega, above the dams of the Snowy Hydro Scheme, where we will start our afternoon walk. We will follow the mighty Snowy River all the way to Charlotte Pass. We will wander past the wombat highways, and tree hollows laden with crimson rosellas, through to the long-standing Illawong Hut and Illawong Suspension Bridge that is shouldered by granite giants. We continue following the new Snowy Alpine Trail through heathlands and across Australia’s highest altitude swing bridge, criss-crossing into ancient snow gum forests and montain environments. Today's walk finishes amongst the majestic grandfather snow gums at Charlotte Pass. In fine weather, there is the option of continuing to explore Mount Stillwell, which looms over Charlotte Pass village and presents panoramic views of the main range. Overnight: Charlotte Pass Walking distance: 9km (2.5 hours) + optional 4.5km walk (1.5 to 2 hours)

Meals:  L,D

Brace yourself for a longer day of walking! The first half hour of the walk today will present you with the challenge of crossing the stepping stones across the Snowy River. Bring your crocs and a second pair of socks for this gentle crossing - you’ll likely stay dry but it is best to be prepared. Moving onwards and upwards to Blue Lake, Australia’s most famous glacial cirque lake, past the mighty Sentinel, and over the ridges of Australia's rooftops until you come to the summit of Australia’s highest point, Mount Kosciuszko, for a spot of lunch. After an epic traverse of Australia’s highest country, a quick 6km descent from the Kosci summit will take the group into the beautiful Thredbo Village. Overnight Thredbo. Walking distance: 21km (7 to 8 hours)

Meals:  B,L,D

The final day of walking will lead you out the door of your lodge, straight to the banks of the Thredbo River. You will wind your way beside Thredbo River through stunning examples of sub-alpine wet eucalypt forests. Stunning grated bridges guide you back and forth over the river, presenting you with views of the valley, snow gums, and crystal clear waters. We have to options for today's walk, walking to either Thredbo Diggings Campground or a slightly shorter walk to Ngarigo Campground. We will have our final group lunch together, before a 40 minute drive back to Jindabyne. The trip ends here for those who met the group in Jindabyne on day 1, or join the return transfer to Canberra or Sydney. Walking distance: 14km (4 to 4.5 hours) or 9km (2.5 to 3 hours).

It’s important to us that you have the fitness and skills to enjoy your time with us so please read on. For our full day bush walking experiences, participants require a good level of fitness and must be willing and able to walk over rugged terrain with some steep ascents and descents. In order to complete this walk you should already have a good level of fitness and ideally undertake regular exercise three or fours times a week. Experience hill walking with a day pack is recommended. Participants will get the most out of their walk if they feel comfortable walking up and down stairs and on uneven ground.

Diverse Range of Adventures

We offer more adventure locations in the Blue Mountains than anyone else. The canyons and climbs of the Blue Mountains are many and varied. Ever heard of Du Faurs Creek? Want to know what’s involved in Dalpura? Do the names ‘Bunny Buckets’ or ‘Dirty Rotten Pig’ sound weird, but you’re still intrigued? Keen to explore Dargan’s, Birrabang, or Breakfast Creek? If you are looking for something specific - just ask!

We respectfully acknowledge the Darug, Darkinjung, Dharawal, Gundungurra, Wanaruah, and Wiradjuri language groups as the traditional custodians of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and thank them for sharing this beautiful land with us.
